After breakfast, we will depart to Kairouan, to admire the first grand Mosque in Africa , in addition to the Barber's Mausoleum.
There will also be an opportunity to marvel at the Aghlabides' Basins, dating back to the 9 th century. These were ingeniously designed to collect water from nearby rivers for storage.
Then a visit to the medina (city) is imperative, for the souks (shops), which are internationally renowned for woollen carpets.
After lunch the next stop will be EL-JEM, to tour the roman amphitheatre. We know today that the Coliseum of Rome was the very first one of its kind inaugurated in approx 80 AD. The amphitheatre of El-Jem was the last of its kind, built at around 238 AD. The visit will extend to the museum of mosaics and ruins of the Roman villas.
Finally, we will proceed to Sousse where dinner and accommodation will be made available. |
